Computer-Aided Design Technology and the Construction Industry Part 4
As we have discussed in sections one, two, and three of this five-part article, computer-aided design (CAD) technology has established some amazing methods of designing, producing, and completing projects in the construction industry. Taking the basic concept of 3D modeling and printing and applying these ideas to a more sophisticated CAD software program, engineers can now utilize CAD tools to work on projects from concept to completion. With access to groundbreaking computer software, a construction professional can create a visual model of their concept and produce this model through a 3D printing system at their workplace.
As Orlando construction attorneys, we are always paying close attention to the latest technologies that can positively impact the industry and our hardworking clients. The Man Who Prints Houses
Italian-born Enrico Dini is considered an innovator in 3D printing. The creator of the “D-Shape” printer, Dini took the basic concepts of 3D printing and expanded on the process to create a giant 3D printer that can produce large-scale 3D models. The process of printing these massive structures begins with CAD software. After creating the 3D design of the structure, the file is sent to the D-shape printer which begins producing layers of sand mixed with solid magnesium oxide. After layers upon layers of this sand are bonded together, the material eventually forms into a solid sandstone substance.
The Benefits of D-Shape Processing
Although Dini has yet to reach his goal of building skyscrapers or large houses with his design, his efforts have motivated many other technology and engineering companies to begin their process of creating giant 3D printed infrastructures. The process of this behemoth printing style has many benefits as well. The layering process speeds up traditional building procedures and in some cases, a project can be completed in just days. The printing process is also cost-effective compared to traditional building methods as well. Lastly, using many local earthly materials to produce the finished result like sand, gravel, or mud, the process is also resourceful and eco-friendly as well.
As we conclude our series, in the final section, we will discuss ways that Dini’s novel invention has evolved from a CAD file to a finished structure. As the process of creating infrastructure continues to evolve and become more sophisticated, CAD technology will continue to have more and more of a primary role in these building procedures.
