Philanthropy in the Construction Industry Part 2

Successful companies show their thanks to the communities that support them by engaging in acts of philanthropy that put money back into the community, give people access to new opportunities, and aim to improve the overall quality of life for those needing assistance. This is especially important in highly visible industries like the construction industry, since communities are often impacted in inconvenient ways during development.

In part one of this four-part series, the Nashville contractor lawyers at Cotney Construction Law explored the philanthropic actions being taken by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC). In part two, we will learn about more construction industry charities putting forth a resilient effort to help others.

BUILD TAMU

This student-run organization is located on the Texas A&M University campus. BUILD TAMU (or BUILD for short) is tasked with building portable medical clinics that can be sent anywhere in the world. Students and volunteers meet in the Bryan/College Station area to construct the clinics. BUILD’s philanthropic efforts don’t end there, they also host charity galas featuring live and silent auctions to help support their efforts.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity’s mission is to build “strength, stability and self-reliance in partnership with families in need of decent and affordable housing.” You were probably first introduced to Habitat for Humanity in high school. It is a popular nationwide charity that helps bolster interest in philanthropy by getting kids involved early. Habitat for Humanity volunteers construct homes for families in need, institute neighborhood revitalization programs, aid in disaster response, and even assist in financing education-related proposals.

This charity has gained a lot of popularity because it allows volunteers to develop important skills while helping others. Most people haven’t worked on a construction site. They don’t understand the feeling of coming together to work on a single, large-scale project with immense, positive implications for the homeowner. Habitat for Humanity’s actions aimed at eliminating poverty across the globe have been growing for decades with few signs of slowing down. A Nashville contractor attorney can help you learn about ways to lend your services to a future Habitat for Humanity project.

Construction for Change

This non-profit construction management company helps other nonprofits and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) complete their building goals. Infrastructure is at the center of Construction for Change, which believes impoverished countries will benefit most from building structures that create jobs and stimulate investments. Construction for Change’s “30/30 Project” is an ambitious philanthropic initiative that teams the charity with stars like Julie Lewis, Macklemore, and Ryan Lewis to build healthcare facilities worldwide.

In parts three and four, our Nashville contractor attorneys will showcase private construction companies making significant philanthropic contributions to their communities.
